Don’t Be Late for This Very Important Date!The Mad Hatter’s Tea Party at the Clark
Things are decidedly different at the Clark these days! In the spirit of Alice’s adventures in Wonderland, don your most interesting hat and be part of the fun at the Mad Hatter’s Tea Party in celebration of the exhibition Clark Remix, a whole new way of looking at and interacting with many of the great works in the Clark’s collection. Featuring fanciful foods, daring drinks, hilarious hats, and mod music, the Mad Hatter’s Tea Party takes place Saturday, February 11 at 6:30 p.m. Tickets are $50 ($40 members) and may be purchased online at clarkart.edu or by calling 413-458-0524.
Director Michael Conforti and exhibition curators Richard Rand, the Robert and Martha Berman Lipp Senior Curator and Curator of Paintings and Sculpture, and Kathleen Morris, Sylvia and Leonard Marx Director of Collections and Exhibitions, will make opening remarks, welcoming guests to the opening of the Clark Remix. Throughout the evening, guests will have the opportunity to view the Clark Remix and Copycat exhibitions, as well as a first edition of Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland, by Lewis Carroll. The evening’s entertainment includes a photo booth, games of chess, and music by the “psychedelic Dixieland” band Primate Fiasco. Guests are encouraged to wear their most interesting hats, and prizes will be awarded at the end of the night for Best Themed Hat and Most Amusing Hat; all guests who wear hats will be awarded a special prize.
The Alice in Wonderland-inspired menu prepared by the Clark’s own chef Steve Wilkinson includes rabbit terrine with cornichons, Welsh rarebit with toast points, mini steak and kidney pies, roast beef and horseradish roulades, a selection of savory scones, tea pastries, and a variety of cupcakes, among other dishes. Guests will also enjoy complimentary wine and beer, including signature drinks Rabbit Ridge wine and Magic Hat beer. Drinks will be served in an eclectic collection of odd and unusual tea cups that guests may take home!
Clark Remix presents highlights from the Clark’s permanent collection of paintings, sculpture, and decorative arts in a dynamic, interactive space that allows audiences to engage with the collection in new ways. The exhibition is both a physical reality and a virtual space featuring a salon-style installation of more than 80 paintings, nearly 20 sculptures, and some 300 of the Clark’s finest examples of silver, glass, and ceramics.
